This is the most popular outdoor drama in America. Unto These Hills, set against the backdrop of North Carolina’s Smoky Mountains is presented under the stars in Mountainside Theater. Begun in July of 1950, “Unto These Hills” has been seen by over five million people. It is the haunting story of the arrival of the Spanish explorer, Hernando DeSoto, in 1540 and ends with the removal of all but a remnant of the Cherokee Indian from his lands in “Trail of Tears.” It is a sharing of the unique experience of the Cherokee Indian, masterfully delivered and never to be forgotten by anyone that sees it.
