Camping in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park: Nothing can compare to the panoramic views of the Smokies. Only 55 miles from Asheville, NC, the Great Smoky National Park is the most popular National Park in the entire USA! This national treasure encompasses 500,000 acres of protected forest extends 70 miles along the North Carolina/Tennessee border.
The park has frontcountry (land which is developed) and backcountry (land which is suitable for backpacking only). There are also a limited number of group tent camping areas.
The NPS maintains developed campgrounds in 10 locations in the park. Abrams Creek, Balsam Mountain, Big Creek, Cades Cove, Cataloochee, Deep Creek, Elkmont, Look Rock and Smokemont.
No more than six people can occupy a campsite. Two tents or one RV and one tent are allowed per site. Max stay in summer 7 days and maximum stay in off season is 14 days. Canine Friends are welcome on lead. Quiet time is 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Riverfront RV/Tent Sites These sites sit along the scenic edge of the East Pidgeon River, in very natural and unpaved surroundings. Site includes electrical hook ups, cooking rings, picnic tables as well as bathhouse privileges (550ft. away) but can be accessed per auto. A separate dump station and water station is RV available.
